Cities associated with the Valdepenas Wine Route

The Wine Route of Valdepenas includes the territory of the current area of production of the Denomination of Origin Valdepenas, which is formed by 10 towns and cities that have a long tradition in wine-making. Therefore, the origins of the vine- growing and wine- making in the area date from various centuries before our era.


Moral de Calatrava is located between the mountains if Sierra del Moral and the river Jabalon. The activity of this city is mainly based in agriculture, with rich soils and large olive and grape harvests. The Holy Week is highly recommended and considered among the most interesting in the region. Visitors can enjoy a tour in the Museum Ruta Cervantina and the Museum of Olive Oil.


San Carlos del Valle belongs to the area called Campo de Montiel, located between the hills Sierra del Cristo and Bailones. From any of its entries, the roof of the Church can be seen, which many people compared to “the Vatican”. The Main Square measures 53 x 21 metres. It is surrounded by the stone columns and black wood terraces. At its beginning, it was the scenario of many social meetings, so it can be considered the largest theatre “Corral de Comedias” in Europe. The Main Square was declared as Special Cultural Interest Place on April 17th , 1993.


Located next to the highway connecting Madrid and Andalusia, Valdepeñas is a city that has adapted itself to modern life, although it has a long and interesting history. Visitors can enjoy Cerro de las Cabezas, an archeological trip to the 7th and 3th century b. C. There are many buildings, which can be considered symbols from the 19th century Spanish architecture in the street Seis de Junio and the train station avenue. Many sculptures and paintings can be discovered in the Town Museum and Gregorio Prieto´s Museum.
